Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2025

This journal is a personal space where I explore architecture, interiors and the visual culture of living. Your privacy matters to me, and I want to be transparent about how this site handles any information that passes through it. This policy explains what I collect, why, and what control you have.

Who I am

I’m Ilaria Iacoviello, an art director and visual researcher based in Milan. This website — ilariaiacovielloartdirector.com — is my independent journal. For any privacy-related questions, you can reach me at [email protected] (or via the contact form, if one is available on the site).

What information I collect

I keep things simple. Here are the few situations where data might be collected:

  • Comments. If you leave a comment on a post, the site collects the data you enter in the comment form (name, email, website, and your comment). Your IP address and browser user agent string may also be collected to help with spam detection.
  • Contact messages. If you write to me through a contact form or directly via email, I receive your name, email address, and whatever you choose to share in your message. I use this only to read and reply to you.
  • Analytics. Like most websites, I use a simple analytics tool (such as Google Analytics) to understand how people discover and move through the journal. This tool collects anonymised data — pages visited, time on site, rough geographic location, browser type — but not your name or email. I look at these numbers occasionally to see what resonates, not to track individuals.
  • Embedded content. Some posts may include embedded images, videos, or other content from third-party sites (for example, Instagram or Vimeo). These embeds behave as if you visited the external site, which may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction. I don’t control what those platforms do; their own privacy policies apply.

Cookies

This site uses small text files called cookies to function smoothly and to gather aggregate analytics data. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will still work, though some embedded content might not display as intended. I don’t use cookies for advertising or for building personal profiles.

How I use your information

  • To respond to your comments or messages.
  • To understand general reading patterns (analytics) and improve the journal’s content and navigation.
  • To keep the site secure and prevent spam.

I never sell, rent, or trade your personal information. I don’t share it with anyone except the essential third-party services that help run the site (see below).

Third-party services I rely on

To keep this journal online and lightweight, I work with a few trusted providers:

  • Web hosting. The site is hosted on a server managed by a hosting company. They have access to server logs (which include IP addresses) for technical and security purposes, in line with their own privacy policies.
  • Analytics. As mentioned, I use Google Analytics or a similar privacy-focused analytics tool. I’ve configured it to anonymise IP addresses and to respect “Do Not Track” signals where possible.
  • Spam detection. Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (like Akismet). That service receives the comment data to filter out spam.

How long I keep data

  • Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely unless you request removal. This is so I can recognise and approve follow-up comments without delay.
  • Messages sent via contact form or email are kept for as long as needed to handle the conversation, then archived or deleted after a reasonable period (typically up to one year).
  • Analytics data is retained in aggregate form; anonymised records may be kept indefinitely for historical comparison, but no personally identifiable analytics data is stored.

Your rights over your data

If you’ve left comments or sent a message, you can request an exported file of the personal data I hold about you. You can also ask me to delete any personal data I hold. This does not include data I’m obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons. To make a request, write to me at the email address above — I’ll respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Children’s privacy

This journal is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided personal data through this site, please contact me so I can remove it.

Changes to this policy

I may update this page from time to time — for example, if I add a new feature or change a service provider. When I do, the “Last updated” date will reflect the change. I encourage you to check back occasionally, but I won’t make changes that retroactively reduce your rights without clear notice.

Contact

If you have questions about this policy or about how your information is handled, write to [email protected]. I’ll do my best to reply clearly and promptly.
