How a home is composed, styled and seen

Apartments and houses read through their plans, their light and the small objects that give a room its character.

From survey to detail

Every interior in the journal is looked at in the same order it is usually made: five stages, each with its own questions.

  1. 01

    Research

Reading the building first: its age, its courtyard, the way daylight enters and how the people living there actually use each room.

  2. 02

    Layout

Sightlines, thresholds and circulation. A plan decides what you see from the door long before any furniture arrives.

  3. 03

    Materials

Terrazzo, oak, lime plaster, brushed steel. How surfaces age and how they hold colour under northern Italian light.

  4. 04

    Light

Natural light through the day, then the lamps that take over at dusk: where they sit, what they reveal and what they leave in shadow.

  5. 05

    Details

Handles, frames, a stack of books, a chair turned slightly off axis. The styling that makes a photograph read as a lived-in home.

Marble, wood, and terrazzo shape how a room feels, ages, and photographs — especially in apartments where architecture, light, and everyday life are closely connected. I’ve spent years training my eye to read surfaces the way a stylist reads fabric: not for what they claim to be, but […]
